Robert "Rob" Franklin
1957-2022

"Fathers are the first friend you make and the last love of your life."- Unknown

Robert "Rob" Franklin watched his last sunrise on June 29th, 2022, at Kings Daughters Medical Center.

Rob was born on a chilly day on October 26th, 1957, to the late Mary and Bob Franklin of Catlettsburg, KY. He was a 1975 graduate of Paul Blazer High School. Rob enjoyed helping people and thought nursing would be the place for him. He went to Ashland Community College, where he earned his degree and gained the title of RN. He worked hard taking care of the patients at CAMC General. If there were three things Rob loved the most, it was his family, photography, and history. Rob loved military history. He was an avid collector of artifacts from World War I, World War II, and the Civil War. Rob loved history so much that he even participated in reenactments of the Civil War, always playing a soldier from the North. Rob used his life to make his own history, and he will be missed by all that knew and loved him.

Rob is survived by his two loving children Elissa McGlone of Detroit, MI, and Charles McGlone and his wife Julia of Detroit, MI, one precious grandchild Tallulah McGlone and a sweet bundle of joy due in September; two sisters Linda Adkins and her husband Bruce of Nashville, TN, and Sandy Virgin and her husband David of Greenup, KY; and one sister-in-law Terri Franklin of Ashland, KY.

In addition to his parents, Rob is preceded in death by one brother Clyde Franklin and one Niece Bobbi Jo Franklin Hall.

A graveside service to honor Bob will be held Friday, July 1st, 2022, at 11:00 am at Prichard Cemetery, with the family leading the service.

Online condolences may be sent to the family from our website at kilgorecollierfuneralhome.com or on Facebook at Neal-Kilgore&Collier Funeral Home.

Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Rob Franklin.

My heart goes out to Rob's family and friends. I recall him at PGBHS as a very kind, gentle, and thoughtful person. I didn't realize he was a nurse. Thank you, Rob, for your life of service to others, and Godspeed.

Oh, MAN!!!  Dammit Rob!

Rob & I had a few classes together: JROTC, Psych w/ Mr. Englin(?) as sophomores, American Historty w/ Mrs. Parkes along with Cheryl Warnock, Vicki Simons, Keith Frazier, Buzzy - I think, and I'm not sure who else...

My memory is that every time there was a debate in class, Rob and I were teamed together, and we were horrible, doing as little prepatory work as possible and trying to wing it through on our wits, or lack thereof.

It wasn't until Facebook came along that I got back in touch with Rob. He would troll some far right conspiracy theorist and get them riled up, and then he and I would have off-line conversations and I'd tell him that some of these folks didn't understand the subleties of his arguements.

I've pulled away from Fb, not as severely as Buckle, but the last couple years most of our messages were of the "Happy Birthday" variety.

I'm gonna miss him.

It is sad to hear of Rob Franklin's passing.  There are a number of memories I have of Rob from high school and for several years thereafter.  We both participated on Civil War re-enactments.  When a reenactor friend became a teacher at Paul Blazer, we returned several times over the years as Civil War soldiers for a "living history encampment" for the students.  All good times!
