We are sadden to announce the death of classmate, Kathy Jo Rearrick,  on Friday, May 3, 2024. There will be a memorial service in June at the First United Methodist Church, Ashland, Ky. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital, the Ashland First United Methodist Church, or Ashland Community Hospice.

We are deeply sadden to announce the death of classmate James Randall "Randy" Maddux (Brother in Law of classmate, Tom Cantrell) on April 25,2024. Funeral services will be conducted on May 4th at 1:00pm at St Paul's Episcopal Church, Bristol Tn. We are sad to inform our class of the death of our classmate Ora Dempsey Qualls, III who passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024. Private funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at the Ashland Cemetery Mausoleum. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of STEEN FUNERAL HOME, CENTRAL AVENUE CHAPEL.
Dempsey was very proud of his service to the Ashland Fire Department and in lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation or the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Congratulations to classmate John Siddens on becoming a grandfather!  Turner Edward was born on November 20, 2022. He weighed 6lb 3oz. He is the son of John's daughter Jodi Quinn and her fabulous husband Kevin. After a short stay in the hospital, they're home now. John says, "Turner is handsome and will fill out very fast!"

We are sad to announce the death of a former teacher, MIss Virginia Jayne. I know many of you had her for English.

Emma Virginia Jayne 1929-2022


 

Miss Emma Virginia Jayne, age 93, of Ashland, died June 16, 2022 at Ashland Community Hospice. She was born January 28, 1929 in Ashland, and was the daughter of the late William P. and Emma Wheatley Brewer Jayne of Ashland and of Professor William L. and Virgie Hamilton Jayne of Morehead. She is survived by several cousins, a niece, and four nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Brewer Jayne, and one brother, Dr. John William Jayne of Chattanooga, Tennessee. A 1946 graduate of Ashland High School and a 1948 graduate of the former Ashland Junior College, she earned her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees from the University of Kentucky, where she then earned the Rank I Status. She did advanced work in English and linguistics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a teacher, having taught 39 years in the Ashland Independent Schools: Hatcher and Oakview Elementary Schools, Coles Junior High School, and 20 years at Paul G. Blazer Senior High School from which she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ashland, where she was baptized in 1944. She was also a Life Member of the University of Kentucky Alumni Association and was presented Life Membership in the Modern Language Association of America. While teaching, she belonged to and held office in various other state and local professional organizations. She was a Kentucky Colonel. Private funeral services were under the direction of Lazear Funeral Home and were conducted by Pastor Mackie Gaskin of the First Baptist Church of Ashland. Burial was in the Ashland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Ashland.

Congratulations to classmates Beth (Boggs) and Mark Maynard on the birth of their granddaughter, Adelyn Clare Wyatt on April 6, 2022. She was 19 inches, 7.2 pounds. Beth and Mark's daughter Sally and husband Derrick Wyatt are her parents. Big brother is Brooks. She is the second grandchild of Beth and Mark.

 

Former classmate, Kim Beckstrand Mayer, lives in Garland, TX. Her mission in life is to help protect children from abuse. She and her husband have opened a home for girls called "Your Place". It's purpose is to provide at risk kids the skills they need to be successful productive adults, by mentoring and providing safe and productive activities for them. Our very own '75 classmate, Mark Maynard, has written a book about the 1961 Tomcats Basketball Team. The name of the book is "Teamwork".  Mark has also written a second book: "Tragedy and Triumph" about the 1967 championship football team and the tragic death of Joe Franklin.
