OK, Bob Fosson and I have been writing to each other. I decided to start this forum to see if we get any replies. I have a question and a story. The question first, I will wait to tell the story another time, so here is the question. How many of you on here, visited the Cue and Cushion in Huntington WAY back in the 70's? And, why and how could there have been a place that relied totally on Blazer students, most of them with fake ID's, to support the income for that owner? On any given weekend night, I figure 90% of the people there were Blazer students......ok, fess up, who all was ever in that place. For me, many fond memories, Robbie Brooks, I know will have a story or 2. Oh how I wish that David Korros RIP, Richard Smith and I could sit down right now and talk about this. Please reply!!!

Yep, The Uptowner, that was it, great story you told..................not sure how you kept that one so quiet.

The cue was a very good time and there was a disco across the street ( i don't remember the name )But I learned a lot at the cue and almost went to jail more than once.It was never my fault,always someone with some illegal stuff and I just happened to be around.Who was it that fell out of the tree on top of the police car?The only place you could drink 25 cent draft beer and play pool for $1 an hour for the entire table.That was fun and Brian you must have been the only one with the fake ID,mine was legal(in my own mind)

Oz, the name of the Disco was the "Uptowner", I think.

I will start with a simple confession and add more risky confessions if I see others respond.

One night, probably a school night, several of us went to the Cue for our typical night on the town. We ventured to the Uptowner and stayed until closing. It was the dead of winter and the Uptowner's swimming pool was layered with ice. TC asked me to hold his wallet as we were walking to DS's Corvair. After TC handed me his wallet he took off his winter coat and opened the pool gate and leaped into the middle of the swimming pool. TC broke the ice and submerged into the ice cold water. We could not believe what had happened. TC made it back to the side of the pool and we lifted him out of the water. TC was soaken wet in a freezing tempurature. On the way home we opened all the windows DS's car as we drove back to Ashland on SR52. Why we opened the widows, I don't know. TC was frozen when we made it home. I know this sounds crazy and it was. I cannot belive we acted this way, but we did.

You know what is great about being old, you can tell stories like this and say "that is what we did back in the good old days". I am not proud of what we did, but I confess.

Bob, you said you "can't believe we acted this way". Does it seem to you that it would be more dangerous today or what? Really, why didn't something really bad happen, I guess TC could have drown. It does seem that there were many chances taken that could have gone bad. Anway, about fake ID's............I did say fake, ha ha, and Robbie's correct, they weren't fake in those days, they were simply another persons ID, before the days of photo ID's. I remember this one time that someone (me) was the Q with some people and they wanted to go to The Uptowner and someone (me) said that they did not have an ID. One of the girls said don't worry about that I have one of my friends sisters ID that you can use. I looked at it and said are you crazy? She said, don't worry, "Kim can be a guys name". I said, yeah sure, IF I WAS ASIAN!! Anyway, it worked, I got in, got beer, got sick, got home .............somehow,..............................OZ probably saved the day and got us home, before bed check, but then again he was the one calling for bed check, ha.

I remember going to the Cue but only a few times. I'd sit at the bar and order a Shirley Temple. It was always so crowded there. One night, after being there awhile, I went outside to the sidewalk for a few minutes. Guy Thompson was out there and he was feeling NO pain. I started talking to him and he said, "Jolinda, please kiss me, please!" For ten minutes, he stood there begging for a kiss and I kept saying "Guy! Kris will find out and you'll be in a lot of trouble and me too!" But he looked so pitiful I just had to kiss him. Afterwards, he just stood there with his eyes closed and whispered "Thank you!!". It was crazy but I've always remembered that night!

I don't remember going to the Cue and Cushion but I do remember Gino's pizza...I remember going there during "RUSH"and the older girls (11th graders!!) asking me to hold their beer while they went to the restroom b/c they knew I wouldn't drink it.

OK Brian. The cue was a regular stop to get the weekend started. When you walked through the door bartender Bob would give you your first shots for fifty cents each. John Fearing RIP and I spent some time talking to Bob. It was the "Blazer Bar" if you will and spanned many graduating classes. Then when the time was right it was across the street to the University Club at the Uptowner Inn for music and dance. I remember more nights starting there than I remember nights going home from there. Was there not also a bar downstairs under the cue I think called the Joker? It is a fact that the Blazer student body supported the cue. What was the name on your ID? Do you remember that you were often asked for your draft card. The stories could go on and on.

Hey all,

Yeah, I remember the Cue. I used to drop Korros, Richard Smith and Guy Thompson off there and I'd wait in the car for them. No wait, maybe I sat at the bar with Jolinda and drank Shirley Temples....sure,whatever!?

The thing I remember the most about it was it was SOO smoky you could barely see across the room! Maybe that was a good thing since we weren't supposed to be there anyway. Like Fosson said...Oh, the good ole days!

My fake ID had been changed so many times I think there was a hole in it from erasing the birthdate and changing it so much.

Its fun to think back to those days; can't wait till our reunion!

where was i i dont remember the cue and cushion maybe it is just my mind getting older of course it is i love reading all that everyone has to write on this profile of our class my mind thinks so fast i dont use periods at least i space i guess i have been in the atmosphere too long sorry honestly i love seeing everyone when i am home 2 short nighs is not enough  maybe we should make up a cue and cushion drink for those that attended and we will jolinda make a shirley cue and cushion  hope everyone is well and i cant wait

Ahh the Q. I'll never forget the night Bryan Finkbone, Rick Barnett and I went to the Q for illicit activities no doubt, and on the way home, we were listening to Nazareth on Rick's "8' track singing at the top of our lungs in his VW. Only problem was Rick got sooo cranked up as he was pumping his fist to the song (Now your messin with a Son ova bitch) he smashed the front windshield. We were on I-64 ...i have no idea how we got home!

I remember the cue and cushion.  Went there several times with Carol, Susan Wolford, Cindy Daniels.  I did not sit with Jolinda and drink Shirley Temples, I was drinking some sweet syrupy called a cherry something. Mike I really think I might have shot some pool while I was there.  Hard to remember! Can't wait to see everyone at the reunion!          Teresa
