Teri Daniel

2014 was a year of big transitions for our family:

* Daniel married Jenny Boyer (from Ashland) in October

* Stephen graduated from Centre College in May

Bryan Finkbone introduced me to the joys of wine by sharing a drop (and I do mean a drop) of Boone's Farm in a Dixie cup outside Putnam Stadium. I was quite sure that intoxication had set in!

I also remember flashing lights at some folks kissing in their car at Central Park. Instead of getting back to their fun, they chased us all the way home. We did not repeat those sorts of pranks after that. Did we Pam? :)

None yet, but very hopeful :)

I'm actually an introvert-- an INFP on the Myers-Briggs personality typology if you've ever taken it. Better understanding my preferences and ways of seeing/interacting with the world has been extremely helpful, both in my professional and personal life.

Safari in Africa; travel to New Zealand; maybe buying a mountain cabin for family hikes/future gatherings; finishing my novel; and maybe writing another business-related book or two (next one on workplace bullying is scheduled for publication by SHRM Books in December 2015).

Things are not nearly as black and white as they used to be back then. . . there are always many different ways of seeing issues. When you disagree with someone, I think it is critically important to take the time to be able to articulate their point of view. When you can objectively explain the rationale for their position, you most likely will be able to find some common ground. But, in my experience, you cannot resolve conflict or friction if you do not seek first to understand.

In the end, though, I think that I finally understand that most people are generally just doing the best that they can and not to sweat the small stuff (and it's mostly all small stuff).

I won't be at the reunion this month because of our travel schedule related to a PhD retreat in Seattle. I am seriously bummed about the date conflict and hope that all of you have a wonderful time that weekend. Would love to hear from you--and if you have photos, please share them too!
